Heather McDonald is a Registered Psychological Associate with the College of Psychologists of Ontario in the areas of Clinical and School psychology. She achieved her B.Sc. in Honours Psychology from McMaster University and her M.A. in Clinical Psychology: Applied Developmental Emphasis from the University of Guelph.
Heather joined our practice in 2006. She previously worked for two area school boards. At Insight Psychology, Heather provides psychoeducational, psychological and diagnostic assessments, as well as treatment and consultation services for children and adolescents who are struggling with learning, development, attention, mental health, and social-emotional functioning. She also completes assessments for giftedness. Heather uses an eclectic approach to treatment that draws from cognitive-behavioural, emotion-focused, play-based, and self-compassion approaches, among others.
Heather has extensive knowledge of childhood development, attachment, and temperamental variances (including highly sensitive children), as well as anxiety and mood disorders. She is particularly passionate about helping parents to better understand their child’s temperament/personality, developmental stage and behaviour, and to support them in finding the parenting approaches and solutions that work for their unique family. She works with parents of children and youth of all ages.
Heather was born and raised in Guelph where she lives with her husband and two children. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, nature walks, playing board games, and “tea time”.
