Areas of Work: Child and Adolescent Assessment; Child and Adolescent Treatment; Adult Assessment and Treatment; Parent Consultations
Dr. Alexa Kane completed her PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Guelph. She completed her residency at the Reach Out Centre for Kids in 2018, and since that time has worked in both private practice and community mental health settings in Ontario.
Alexa works primarily with children, adolescents, and adults conducting comprehensive psychological assessments, with the goal of helping individuals to better understand their strengths and needs. Her assessment work can help clients to answer questions about their/their child’s learning, behaviour, and mental health, and provide them with personalized recommendations to help them to move forward with this new understanding. She takes great care in providing written assessment reports that are thorough and true to the individual’s experience, while also being readable and easily understood by all.
In addition to her assessment work, Alexa also provides therapeutic support to children, adolescents, and adults, as well as parent consultations. Her approach is integrative, with a focus on developing safety within the therapeutic relationship and tailoring interventions to each client’s unique needs and goals. Alexa has a strong background in working with youth and young adults who have experienced trauma, with many years of experience doing assessments and therapy with children and youth in the foster care system.
Alexa lives in Guelph with her partner, three young children, two dogs, and a cat. She loves gardening in the summer, early-morning walks, and sitting on her back deck watching rain and thunderstorms. She’s an avid reader, audio-booker, and podcast-listener.
